[Fwd: DAML Presentation Description]

From: Dan Connolly ([email protected])
Date: 02/06/01

I volunteered to present DAML at KT2001.

These blurbs look OK to me; I presume they're OK
to other folks too. If not, let me know.

(if you've got creative suggestions, send them
straight to Dianne Kennedy, OK? I'm not sure
what the deadline for getting stuff into the
conference program is/was.)

Dan and Dianne,
There is no description listed for DAML on the Web site yet -- so I drafted
up a brief one for your review. Please let me know what changes you would
like to see before we list it on the site. Thanks for the help.

DAML: The DARPA Agent Markup Language
"DAML", wondering what it is about? DAML, which stands for the "DARPA Agent
Markup Language" is an initiative by the US Defense Advanced Research
Projects Agency which focuses on helping to create web languages to make
more content readable by machines so that "agents" (very loosely defined)
and other web programs/users will have much more content to process. This
presentation will introduce DAML further, it's current status and
relationship with RDF (Resource Description Framework).

The World Wide Web (WWW) contains a large amount of information which is=20
currently coded using HTML.=A0While HTML allows us to visualize the informat=

with respect to objects. Ontologies provide a powerful alternative for=20
describing objects and their relationshipsto other objects. DAML (DARPA Agen=
