daml:equivalentTo and its subproperties sameClassAs,
samePropertyAs, and sameInstanceAs can be used to effect
synonyms.

Not really.  The language authors include folks from
Germany, the Netherlands, and Finland as well as the US and
UK.

There are a number of German travel ontologies in the DAML
Ontology Library [1].
