DAML Joint Committee Telecon Notes: November 21, 2000 Attendees: Jim Hendler Tim Berners-Lee Dan Connolly Mike Dean Stephan Jeff Ian Ora Deb Lynn Stein Dieter Fensel? Frank? Dan Brickley - regrets Pat Hayes - regrets Agenda items? Request: Luxembourg meeting - could someone give a short talk for next week (Stephan and Ian?) Devote most of the meeting to DAML OIL proposal from Ian. Ian: Review of the proposal Sent out a file that summarized the changes, most were fairly minor *Primitive or non primitive ? *Moving Cardinality from global ? The seven points: #1 - *Thing is made equal to the Union of Nothing and not Nothing. One seems to be supported ok #2 - *Local cardinality restrictions Card 1 and 2 seem to be useful. Is 3 used anywhere? Answer is yes, we need them! purpose of having local restrictions instead of new properties? new properties are a maintenance problem! Got support as well #3 - *Semantics of restrictions have been changed to being necessary AND sufficient Some discussion and potential arguments with this No enumerated lists ... !!! Only one that caused some arguments #4 - *Cardinality facets on slots have been deleted as they are now redundant #5 - *Distinction between restrictions and qualifications has been removed some naming questions about toValue(?) and others that was supporting whole heartedly! We think we have some power to do this change!!! and the distinction was a problem that everyone agrees to change! #6 - *"default" has been removed due to its lack of semantics Only comment is "good" #7 - *No Namespace change - local renaming Stephan: local renaming a bad idea. Bad for programmers, and not that much better for end users? Anyone arguing the other way? - none spoke up! Lots of support for this one!
