Notes on Telecon on Oct 24 2000 - 1pm - San Diego Attendees: Pat Hayes Jim Hendler Mike Dean Kelly Barber Tom Martin Frank Jeff H. Lynn Ora Lasila (has a 7 week old baby) Tim Deb Dan Mike welcomes everyone. Jim: Charter and direction for this group----------------- goal: look at ontology again and go from daml 0.5 to 1.0. Take that subset (which is inherantly useful) as a starting point to get people thinking. Within a week and a half we should have some samples from the DAML community. Dan B and Dan C have done this before goal: move this thing to a real logic, not just a framework. How? Maybe we should take this core and add some rules. Could be many different. (DAML Rules .5?) Other ways? Jim is hoping this will become w3c affiliated. Committee -- gate keeper for what does and does not make it into the language. Not necessarily the decision making body, just the group to throw around ideas and release them to the group. For the group, looke beyond darpa, touched all the political areas we wanted to touch, etc. If the group feels it needs to be bigger ... up to the group. How do we respond to the fact that we have w3c people, we don't necessarily follow w3c processes. Right now we are not IN the consortium, so this should be ok ... (someday). Someone wants this to be an exploratory. First approx, that means the membership doesn't want to play ... but they do, so maybe we aren't exploratory. Jim is gone ... -------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike: Get everyone up to date on whats happened and what people plan to do still Dan: Bug. equivalent to and subproperty. not fixed. some bugs that are fixed. Mike: Either Mike or Dan potentially should maintain an item list to track the issues that we are dealing with. Mailing list archive is the main source ... if Dan said in an email that he intends to do something, then it means it is an action item for him ... Mike: Any plan to make a narrative for describing DAML? No. Any one signed up? No. Think we should do this? Yes. Mike: Feedback will come as people do their homework. By the next meeting. Mike: We set up a Daml Help mailing list. We is Tom Hash and Mike Dean. That is a source of information and for a FAQ. Filtered, and passed on to experts as needed. Mike: Stephan. Have they had success in building on top of DamlOnt. Deb will ask him. Mike: Current files are our knowlege base. Lynn?: Some are working on conversions between different languages Deb: Has a Daml Oil page. Wants to add a mapping between these two. A second one that I missed-(XXX) Peter has a quick summary that needs to be updated before it will be linked onto her page. *****www.www.com/...../mapping -- Action Item ... pull the comments together and revise it. Frank will own this. *****Mike: Shall we move everything to Daml.org on CVS. Mike will be an action item to get this set up. One question on whether it will work on a cvs. Pat and Deb (?). Jeff?: Shoe/daml mapping similar to daml/oil mapping. Considering writing a tool to convert shoe to daml. *****Mike: Have a top level page that has a current status and what is in progress. Include links to mappings, etc. In progress needs to be followed closely. Action item for Mike. Add points of contact for those things is a good idea. Deb: DamlOnt to Ontalingua? Not ready but reasonably far along. Another one that I missed-(XXX) mapping and code both. Mike: may identify some "best practices" from the homework / discussions on how to do stuff. Collect lessons learned!! Mike: Is this time good for everyone for everyweek? Yes. One reply ... can we do this every other week. For now, every week, maybe relax earlier. Mike: Face to face meeting? Stanford volunteered as location by Deb. Will have feedback from larger community and homework done. December is not good for travel on some. For non darpa members, travel can be helped. Tim: XML2000 (3-8dec) in DC. Perhaps DC since xml2000 is there. pref: monday for travel. meeting proposed for 7 and 8 in DC (assuming Deb is available). Use IRC for meeting. *****Pencil in Dec 7&8 in DC -- go / no go in two weeks. PI Meeting, 13 - 15 feb in DC. *****Mike: Suggests that suggestions for meeting converstaion topics be emailed to Mike. How cast in stone are the specs of DAML? Mike says basically everything is set in sand. We want to layer on top of RDF, but specifics are ...
